With convenient locations on Massachusetts’ North Shore and Merrimack Valley, we provide birth control, abortion care, gender-affirming care, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing and referral, and other preventive health services.

Role Summary: HealthQ is currently looking for a Float Medical Assistant/Patient Care Coordinator to provide administrative and clinical support to our three health centers ensuring efficient operations and quality care to our patients. This position will support patients and clinicians through various tasks related to medical assisting, reception, patient care management, organization, and communication. The Float Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator must be able to travel to other clinic locations (across Beverly, Haverhill, and Lawrence) to cover for other Medical Assistants and Patient Care Coordinators as assigned

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient intake including sexual health history; record patient vitals: blood pressure, pulse and weight, and assist with patient exams, screening, counseling and lab tests as necessary. Enter complete and accurate information in electronic health record system (athenahealth).
  • Assist with a wide variety of activities relevant to abortion care and vasectomy, including informed consent, patient support during procedures, monitoring patient recovery, emergency triage, room turn over, and equipment processing; 
  • Provide skilled, sensitive reproductive health counseling, educational and referral services; includes providing STI (including HIV) counseling and testing services, gender-affirming health services, and full spectrum pregnancy options counseling and services.  
  • Prepare exam and procedure rooms, assuring adequate stock of all necessary medical supplies; sterilize instruments; maintain standard inventory items, including both medical and patient educational supplies.  
  • Maintain patient electronic health record (EHR) to ensure compliance with established protocols and documentation requirements; complete relevant reports and patient logs, documenting information to ensure compliance with established practices and regulations.
  • Responsible for patient registration, check-in, check-out procedures, and patient calls; verify insurance coverage; enter complete and accurate information in athenahealth. 
  • Greet patients in a courteous, respectful, caring manner.
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively to patients from a wide range of backgrounds and ages. 
  • Collect copays, unpaid balance amounts, and set up payment plans; inform patients about availability of fee for service discounts based on income; and MA Department of Public Health coverage in specific situations; assist patient in completing the Application for Discounted Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively and compassionately seek out and engage people in informational and non-judgmental discussions centered around sexual and reproductive health.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of medical assisting experience. 
  • Medical Assistant certification. 
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

Other “nice to have” skills:

  • Knowledge of or experience in sexuality education or sexual and reproductive health.
  • Experience using athenahealth for electronic health records. 

Other important details:

This is a float position, serving all HealthQ clinic locations. This position will require a lot of travel to and

from the communities we serve (Beverly, Haverhill, and Lawrence, MA). The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday. The schedule may change daily based on the organization's coverage needs.
