About HealthQ: Established in 1971, HealthQ is a non-profit organization providing sexual and reproductive health. HealthQ's mission is to provide exceptional reproductive and sexual health care to all who need it without judgment and without barriers. With convenient locations on Massachusetts’ North Shore and Merrimack Valley, we provide birth control, abortion care, gender-affirming care, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing and referral, and other preventive health services.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) provides sexual and reproductive health care through evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide high-quality, inclusive, patient-centered, and trauma-informed sexual and reproductive health care to patients, including adolescents
• Obtain and document comprehensive health histories with sensitivity, respect, and attention to patient experience
• Perform physical examinations, with an emphasis on reproductive health, using trauma-informed approaches that prioritize patient comfort, consent, and autonomy
• Consult with the Medical Director when patient presentations fall outside established clinical guidelines
• Provide cancer screenings, diagnose and treat sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and perform specialized procedures as indicated
• Deliver compassionate counseling and emotional support; promote shared decision-making, and informed treatment choices in a non-judgmental, inclusive manner
• Provide health counseling and emotional support throughout care. Teach and support positive self-care techniques, including problem resolution and selection of treatment alternatives
• Provide birth control education and methods, including IUD and implants
• Provide gender affirming hormone therapy
• Provide medication abortion care, including ultrasound services
• Perform and order diagnostic studies as indicated and provide appropriate treatment and follow-up as necessary
• Perform lab procedures, including phlebotomy, injections, and vaginal/KOH preps, and provide follow-up for abnormal lab results
• Partner with leadership and staff to support the planning and implementation of organizational goals and initiatives
• Provide clinical oversight and serve as a resource to clinical support staff
• Serve as an active participant in Clinical Committee (including development and revision of medical guidelines and teaching sheets), and act as liaison to bring back information to medical office staff
• Prepare exam and procedure rooms, assuring adequate stock of all necessary medical supplies; sterilize instruments; maintain standard inventory items, including both medical and patient educational supplies

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:
Experience/Skill Requirements: The following requirements and skills are considered essential:
? Graduate of accredited college or nursing institution with nurse practitioner or nurse midwife degree;
? Minimum 2 years’ experience in Experience in full range of sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion care and gender affirming care.
? Masters in Nursing required.
? Ultrasound certification and experience with medication abortion preferred;
? Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently required;
? Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
? Excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
? Demonstrated ability to work with people of different races, ethnicities, sexual and gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities, and experiences.
? Ability to work in a computerized office environment required, including skill in E-mail, word-processing, spreadsheets, and electronic practice management systems.
Education/Knowledge Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:
? Master’s or Doctorate degree with current MA licensure as NP, CNM, or PA
? Satisfactory completion of training in the provision of all methods of contraception and laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy;
? Current registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) & Massachusetts Controlled Substances Act (MCSR);
? CPR certification.
? Foundational understanding of structural racism and the systems of oppression that contribute to health inequities in our communities.
