Head Clinician 

Position Description

In its second year, J.S. Bryant School is a private, not-for-profit, 12-month therapeutic high school in Cummington, MA. We serve LGBTQIA+ teens navigating social-emotional and mental health challenges through an integrated program of experiential learning and wellness support. Our 5-acre campus with river, garden, orchard, chickens, and goats allows daily therapeutic connection with the land and animals. Wellness support includes 1:1 therapy, group therapy, wellness clubs, and therapeutic intervention as needed. Our students may exhibit difficulties with emotional regulation, social interactions, and/or exhibit behaviors that have disrupted their previous educational placements. Students may struggle with: gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, mood disorders, sensory sensitivities, relationship building, executive functioning, and other behaviors associated with high functioning autism spectrum disorder. J.S. Bryant School does not serve students with externalizing behaviors, untreated eating disorders, or active substance use disorder. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed mental health professional with relevant Masters Degree
  • 3+ years experience providing support to teens in a clinical setting 

Preferred Qualifications

  • LICSW strongly preferred
  • Success in supporting teens with diverse social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills 
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive wellness environment
  • Ability to incorporate nature-based therapy practices
  • Deep background in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, through work and/or lived-experience

 

Reports to: Head of School

Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties

  • Complete individual student assessments and treatment plans for 1:1 therapy and family therapy 

  • Provide weekly 1:1 therapy for student and family therapy as agreed upon by parents/guardians

  • Facilitate skill-building in twice weekly group therapy sessions

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of wellness clubs in modalities of the students’ choosing (hiking, farm animal care, book club, art, music, etc.)

  • Participate in wraparound support including advising school staff  in integration of therapeutic supports for students’ social-emotional and mental health needs.

  • Respond to student emergencies and complete crisis reporting protocol as required

  • Maintain confidentiality in all clinical matters and adhere to HIPAA standards and regulations

 

Administrative Duties

  • Manage the mental health documentation required to consult with parents/guardians and, as needed, outside prescribers, DESE and local school districts 

  • Coordinate all scheduling for student therapy and family therapy sessions

  • Conduct professional development training for staff on wellness challenges and support

  • Attend staff and school-wide meetings as specified by school leadership

  • Participate in all-school safety procedures and taskforce leadership as needed

  • Support the unexpected start-up activities of the new school

Supervisory Duties

  • At full capacity, acts as supervisor of therapeutic staff

Additional Information

  • 75% time to transition to full-time as enrollment grows
    (8:30am-3:30pm school day, Monday to Friday - school calendar)
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • Onsite only position in Cummington
  • Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 full-time salary (pro-rated to part-time effort)
